(My Grand Parents)

Beneath The Dirt
The sun has shone for many years
And time has all ignored
The rusty roof, the missing steps,
The old and splintered board.
The grass fights hard against the weeds,
While saplings all attack
And as the years pass slowly on
The yard still pushes back.
It sit’s a ways, just off the road,
The path is wild grass,
Each year brown boards turn silvery hue
And watch the decades pass.
No one stops by to go within
And no one has yet found,
Traces of the pioneers
That’s scattered all around.
The broken platter on the porch,
The iron bed upstairs,
The table with the wobbly leg
That heard the evening prayers.
It’s all been left to mice and rats,
The house, quite like a tomb,
Yet memories of pioneers
Still fill up every room.
A plow is buried in the dirt,
The handle worn smooth,
A bottle with old lineament,
Half full, there left to soothe.
The sky is cloudless on this day,
The breeze, the birds are still,
For time has posed a picture here
Of years that go downhill.
The pioneers of all our pasts
Lay quietly asleep,
We watch as time erodes what was
And leave it in a heap.
Perhaps one day a rusty nail,
A piece of broken plate
Will slow the gaze of someone new
While they investigate.
And maybe they will ponder here,
For moments have no cost
And take the time to think of all
The history that's been lost.

 Woman's  Club  of  Jacksonville Beach

December  12,  1935  the Pablo Civic League  changed its name  to  The  Woman's  Club  of  Jacksonville Beach and bought a clubhouse! The first meeting in the clubhouse was held January 21, 1938. The club was admitted to the State and  General Federation  of  Woman's  Clubs  and  officially became Jacksonville  Beaches Woman's  Club May 1926 Pablo Creek Civic Club was organized by a small group of local women. At that time there was only one road that connected south Jacksonville with the Beaches area and that was  two lane Atlantic  Boulevard. The 1950's: members continued to support community life including  public  schools,  churches,  public health  issues and environmental concerns.  Hundreds of  volunteer hours and  dollars raised through designated efforts helped special projects and scholarships In 1964, the group sold their first clubhouse and built their second clubhouse in Jacksonville Beach.
